Working for Guacamole

Today’s career advice comes from Bianca Cadloni.  She exemplifies some of the career success advice I have advocated for a long time – create a resume tailored to the job which you are targeting.

Bianca did more than that – she created an entire website to promote her chances of getting hired for a social media and public relations position at Chipotle Mexican Grills.  Check it out – www.hirebiancac.com.  I think this is very cool for a couple of reasons.  First, Chipotle is one of my favorite places for a quick bite.  I have a burrito or a bowl at least once a week.  I’ve been a fan ever since I visited their first store on Evans Avenue in Denver, near the University of Denver.

Second, Bianca is a big fan of Chipotle too.  And she is not afraid to show it.  If you check out her website, you’ll see that it looks a lot like the Chipotle site.  She titled it “Will Work for Guacamole.”

Her home page is a real attention grabber…

Hello Chipotle!

My love affair with Chipotle happened when I moved to Colorado with my family in 1999. The very first restaurant we ate at was a Chipotle located on 1100 Ken Pratt Blvd in Longmont. I remember taking the first bite of my chicken tacos, and feeling my senses come alive. It was as if the first ten years of eating had never mattered; the tacos were a spiritual experience to say the least. From my first initial bite, fast casual Mexican food was never the same for me. I consider myself a diehard fan, and have always dreamed of bringing your food to every corner of the world.

When I saw the job listing for social media and public relations coordinator, my heart skipped a beat. It was as if my love of PR, social media and Chipotle came together to give birth to the job description I had been dreaming of since I took my first bite of a sustainable chicken taco. So why do I deserve this job? Like you, I am Colorado based and here to stay. Now my hope is that you can see in me what I see in your company: creativity, ingenuity, forward thinking ideas and murderous guacamole (OK maybe not the last part).

Click on the above links to learn more about what I have to offer you.

The link tabs include: Writing, Social Media, Public Relations, Advertising, About Bianca, and #Resume – very clever and highly targeted to the job she wants.

Bianca has also created a twitter account #HireMeChipotle.  Follow her – retweet her tweets.  She deserves it after all of her creativity and hard work.

I’m hoping Bianca lands her dream job at Chipotle.  But even if she doesn’t, the buzz she has generated with this unique campaign is likely to help her land a social media and PR job with another company and put her on the road to the life and career success she deserves.

The career success coach point here is simple common sense.  You stand a better chance of landing your dream job if you tailor your resume to it.  Bianca Cadloni took this career advice one step further by creating an entire website to bolster her chances of getting hired by Chipotle Mexican Grills in a social media and PR position.  You don’t have to go to the lengths Bianca did.  But you should research every company and job for which you are applying.  Tailor your resume to demonstrate why you are the ideal candidate for that job.  Bianca’s website www.hirebiancac.com is a great place to get some creative ideas on how to begin tailoring your resume to your dream job.  This is solid career advice.  Use it.  Don’t cop out here.  A standard one size fits all resume won’t help you land a job in this tough economy.  You have to demonstrate your unique qualifications for every job for which you apply.  Your career success depends on it.
