Want to Build Positive Habits? Schedule Them.

Positive habits are powerful.  They can help you achieve the life and career success you want and deserve.  Most successful people have cultivated positive daily habits.  This article suggests that the best way to develop a new habit is to schedule activities associated with it.

As the article points out, it takes time to develop new habits — anywhere from 21 to 66 days.  If you schedule time to develop a new habit, you are more likely to incorporate it into your daily life.  For example, I blog five days a week.  Most days I do two or three blog posts (this is the third one today).  A long time ago, I began scheduling myself to research topics and write blog posts every morning Monday through Friday.  Now a weekday that I don’t blog feels as if there is something missing.  I have a blogging habit.

On the other hand, I like to ride my bike for exercise.  However, I haven’t scheduled a time to ride every day.  The result? Some days I ride.  Some days I don’t.  I haven’t developed the positive habit of bike riding for exercise.

What habits do you need to develop?  Schedule them.  You’ll be more likely to make these habits a part of your daily routine.
