Time for Reflection

Sometimes it’s a good idea to stop and take stock of where you are and where you’re going.

This article lists 10 questions you should ask yourself….

All of these 10 questions are worth pondering — and returning to every once in a while.

But I particularly like the second question — Based on my daily routines and actions, where can I expect to be in five years?

As the old saying goes, if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.  If you’re happy with the way things are progressing in your life and career, you probably don’t need to change your daily routines and actions.  On the other hand, if you want more out of your life and career, you’ll need to change your daily routines and actions.

Here’s an example.  Several years ago I decided that I wanted to be a thought leader in the career coaching field.  I had written several books on the topic, but I wasn’t getting the traction I wanted.  So I decided to add something to my daily routine — blogging.

At first, I blogged once a day, and used only content that I had written.  Then I realized that good blogs often have a content curation feature to them.  So I began blogging three times a day, sharing other people’s thoughts and commenting on them.  This activity is working — for now at least.  My readership has increased, and I think I am helping more people create the life and career success they want and deserve.  I changed my routine, and my results changed.

The point here is not to dissect my blogging habits, but to reinforce the idea of changing your daily routine in order to achieve different results than you’re currently getting.
