The Biggest Risk

Yesterday I did a talk on self confidence for over 100 people at Crop Production Services, a division of Agrium, the premier supplier of agricultural products and services in North America, Latin America and Australia.  One of my key points I made is that self confident people face their fears and act.  Action cures fear.  It allows you to reach your potential.

This morning, I found this video from Scott Dinsmore of Live Your Legend in my inbox…

Scott is right — doing nothing is the biggest risk you can take in your career.  You don’t have unlimited time to accomplish the things you want.  Doing nothing means that things will never change for you.  I love the idea that inaction is really action.

What does this mean for your career?  Simple.  You have to take action to get what you want.  Your action may be learning new skills, building new relationships, changing jobs, starting a business — whatever.  The important point here is that if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got.

This reminds me of one of Paul Simon’s songs — “A good day ain’t got no rain.  A bad day is when I stay in bed and think of things that might have been.”  Don’t end up with these bad days.  Look your fears in the eye and take action.  The worst thing that can happen is that you’ll fail — and failure is seldom fatal.

Bud
