How to Get Hired by a Startup

Many of my CareerHMO coaching clients tell me that they want to work for a startup.  Startups are exciting places to work.  I understand that — having started my business way back in 1988.

This article lays out five things most startups are looking for in the people they hire…

As the article points out, you need to demonstrate these five traits…

  • Drive
  • Brilliant Thinking
  • Humility
  • Passion
  • Culture Fit

…when you’re interviewing with a startup.

In my experience, most companies, not just startups, are looking for these five.  But I agree that these five are really important when it comes to landing a job with a startup.

I particularly like what they article has to say about drive. If you want to be considered by a startup you have to start something — a blog, a meetup group, a volunteer group — anything that demonstrates your willingness to get out there and make things happen.

Working for a startup can be fun and exhilarating, but it’s not for everybody.  If it is for you, follow the five tips in this article and you’ll be on your way to landing a job with a startup.

Your career mentor,

Bud
