How to Build Strong Relationships

Members of my career mentoring site know that I believe that strong, mutually beneficial relationships are the key to your success.  Here are four tips for building those types of relationships.

  1. Be honest — Do what you say you’ll do.  Deliver on your promises.  Represent yourself truthfully.
  2. Be punctual — Show up on time, try to be early.  When you’re punctual you show other people that you respect them and their time.
  3. Admit your mistakes — We all screw up every once in a while.  Admit it when you do.  Then fix the problem.  Avoid blaming others or making excuses.
  4. Use conflict positively — No matter how easy going you are, you are bound to find yourself in conflict with someone sooner or later.  Be gracious.  Use conflict as an opportunity to strengthen, not destroy the relationships you’ve worked hard to build.

Put these four tips to work and watch your network grow and help you flourish.

Your career mentor,

Bud
