Mastering the World of Selling is one of my favorite career success books.  Every sales person should have a copy.  As we are all in sales – in one way or another — this means that you need to get it and read it.
Over the weekend I was rereading Mastering the World of Selling.  One chapter is entitled “Your Best Sales Year Ever.”  The authors, Eric Taylor and David Riklan offer the following challenge – Evaluate Your Personal Energy.
They say, “When we talk about boundless personal energy, we use the acronym D.R.E.A.M.S.  to remind us of …

While this is a career advice blog, I cover a variety of topics.  Sports can teach us many life and career success lessons.  So today, I want to discuss an NFL game that happened last night.
If you read this blog with any regularity, you know that I’m a Pittsburgh guy, a big American Football fan and an even bigger Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  Last night, the Steelers played the Baltimore Ravens.  It was a tough, brutal game.
The Ravens broke Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger’s nose the first time the Steelers had the ball.  The report from the …

Some of my best career advice is counter intuitive.  In today’s highly competitive world, it is tempting to put yourself and your needs first, and everybody else second.  But today, I offer this bit of career success advice — Think BIG WE and little me.
Thinking and acting BIG WE little me is not about denying yourself, your needs, or your individuality.  It is about realizing that you are part of a whole that is greater than you.  We all are.  We are members of families, communities, work organizations and societies.  While we all have to …

It’s the day after Thanksgiving in the USA.  I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday.  In Wednesday’s post, I mentioned that it is a good idea to make giving thanks a habit, not a once a year occurrence.  I think that this is great life and career success advice.
Later that day, I came across an interesting article by Scott Dinsmore entitled “29 Ways to Show Unique Gratitude.”   Scott suggested sending the list to a few friends.  As a reader of my blog, I consider you a friend, so I am posting Scott’s …

Tweet 127 in Success Tweets, my latest career advice book, says “Pay it forward.  Build relationships by giving with no expectation of return.  Give of yourself to build strong relationships.”
I’m a big believer in paying it forward. It’s great career advice.   To the best of my ability I am willing to help anyone, anywhere, any time.  I find that I get great satisfaction from helping others.  I also find that things that I do for others with no expectation of return come back to me in odd ways.
I am still in Ireland.  I’ll be coming back …

As I mentioned in a post a couple of weeks ago, I received lots of offers to do guest posts.  I’m getting to them now that I’ve completed my series of posts about the career advice in my latest career success coach book, Success Tweets.

3 Tips for Vertical Career Advancement
Career advancement is like a choose-your¬-own-adventure novel, for the decisions we make in life will obviously influence where we go. We may not always know the outcome to these decisions, but we can rest …

I’m in Dublin Ireland this week facilitating a week long leadership retreat for one of my large mutlinational clients.  Then Cathy and I are take a few days for a small vacation.
I’m experiencing some difficulty with the hotel’s internet connection.  And, the meeting is pretty time consuming, so I’ve decided to do something I’ve never done in six years of blogging.
I’m going to take some time off from my career advice blogging.  I will be back blogging  on November 17 or 18.
Please don’t forget about me in my absence.
Make it a successful week.

I love blogging.  I have met a whole lot of really great people who have something interesting to say and are really fun.  I often exchange career advice books with fellow authors.  The other day, I got one of the best books I have seen in a long time.  It’s called Liquid Leadership: From Woodstock to Wikipedia – Multigenerational Management Ideas That are Changing the Way We Run Things.  Brad Szollose is the author.
I love the title – leadership is fluid.  I love the subtitle even more because it reminds me of who I am.  …

Today is Use Your Common Sense Day.  I will be on several radio stations in the US and Canada discussing why I created and registered it.  This year’s theme is don’t text while you’re driving some common sense advice that way too many people ignore.
I created and registered this day because I often find a lack of common sense – in life and in work.  That’s why I present common sense career advice in this blog and in my career advice books.  Over 3,000 people have downloaded a free copy of my latest career success coach book, …
