Relationship building is one of the four keys to career success in my Career Success GPS System.  I discuss it in detail in several of my books: Straight Talk for Success, Star Power, I Want YOU…To Succeed, Your success GPS, and 42 Rules to Jumpstart Your Professional Success.  As a career success coach, I am always reminding my clients that they must build strong, long lasting mutually beneficial relationships with the important people in their lives.
Unfortunately, no human relationship is without conflict.  That’s why you have to become adept at resolving conflict positively.
I know a …

As a career success coach, I often help my career success coaching clients with their presentation skills. Presentation skills, along with conversation and writing skills are an important part of my Career Success GPS system. I discuss the importance of being a dynamic communicator – especially a great presenter — in several of my books: Straight Talk for Success, Star Power, I Want YOU…To Succeed, Your Success GPS and 42 Rules to Jumpstart Your Professional Success.
Presentations scare a lot of people. Do you have a fear of speaking in public? Or does it come …

If you want to create the successful life and career you want and deserve, you need to become an outstanding performer.  As a career success coach, I always tell my career success coaching clients that outstanding performers are willing to put in the hard work to do whatever it takes to succeed.
This is a tough time to be looking for a job.  Many of my career success coaching clients are having difficulty getting interviews let alone landing a job.  However, I heard a story not too long ago about a new MBA from NYU who …

Positive personal impact is one of the keys to career success that is part of my Career Success GPS System.  As a career success coach, I help my clients create positive personal impact.  I discuss in several of my books: Straight Talk for Success, Star Power, I Want YOU…To Succeed, Your Success GPS and 42 Rules to Jumpstart Your Professional Success.

As a career success coach, I’m always looking for new and different ways to get across my common sense ideas on career success.  On Friday I had a great opportunity.  I was invited to see the Go For It! Institute’s program in action at a K through 8 school in Denver.  If you don’t know about the Go For It! Institute, you should.  The Institute teaches kids the value of things like positive attitude, believing in themselves, positive habits, goal setting and persistence.
Their work is based on ideas created by Judy Zerofa.  Judy has created …

I saw this quote from George Will on line the other day…
“The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised.”
I couldn’t let it go.  As a career success coach, I’m always telling my clients that they can boost their self confidence through the power of optimism.  So I don’t see a lot of value in being a pessimist.  If you’re “constantly being proven right” you’re probably creating your own self fulfilling prophecies.  Pessimism works like that.
I choose to be an optimist and create my own …

Did you watch the Olympics last night?  The Americans did pretty well, winning gold medals in skiing – Lindsey Vonn, speed skating – Shani Davis and snowboarding – Shaun White.  Good for them.  Their years of training, hard work and dedication paid off.
In this post I want to focus on Lindsey Vonn.  She lives in Vail, my favorite Colorado mountain town.  I live and do my career success coaching work in Denver, so I think of her as kind of a neighbor.  More important, I find her story compelling.  Right now, she is the best …

As a career success coach, I always advise my clients to stick with it – to demonstrate their commitment to their career success to themselves and others by shaking off setbacks and moving forward.  This morning, I received an email from Katina Solomon at OnLineCollege.org telling me about a new blog post she had just done and asking me to pass it on to my readers.
I loved this post.  It tells the stories of “50 Famously Successful People Who Failed at First.”  These people come from all walks of life.  But they shared one characteristic in …

“Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men’s blood and probably will not be realized. Make big plans. Aim high in hope and work.”
This quote from Daniel Burnham is a perfect to begin a post on outstanding performance, one of the success competencies that is part of my Career Success GPS system and that I discuss in detail in several of my books: Straight Talk for Success, I want YOU…To Succeed, Star Power, Your Success GPS and 42 Rules to Jumpstart Your Professional Success.  If you want to be an outstanding performer, …

Did you watch the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony Friday night?  I liked it for its simple elegance.  As I was watching, I took note of a line in Slam Poet Shane Koyczan’ tribute to Canada, We Are More…
And some say what defines us
Is something as simple as “please” and “thank you”
The Canadian audience roared when they heard that line.  After all, Canadians are known for being polite.
Creating positive personal impact is one of the competencies that comprise my Career Success GPS system.  If you want to create positive personal impact, you need to do three …
